FAN power can help shell-shocked Elgin City put one foot in the promotion play-offs, insists defender Mark Nicolson.
The centre half has urged the Borough Briggs supporters to be their 12th man on Saturday against Annan Athletic.
‘Twiggy’s’ own goal sparked an eight-goal collapse at champions Alloa Athletic last weekend after City had keeper Zander Clark sent off.
However, there is no moping in the City camp and Nicolson believes they can shrug off the result to cement a coveted top four finish.
"We appreciate the supporters being our 12th man and it has been a significant factor before when we have had a big crowd," he said.
"We have let them down in a couple of games this season, but we need a big support more than ever on Saturday."
City’s players have the chance to make their own piece of history by clinching a play-off place for the first time in the club’s 12 years in the Scottish Football League.
"It is one of the biggest games in Elgin’s history and we need to focus on that," said Nicolson.
Manager Ross Jack admits City need an "almighty performance" on Saturday but agrees with Nicolson that the crowd have a massive part to play.
"The Borough Briggs crowd have been fantastic for us this season. They need to get behind the players and encourage them on Saturday.
"It is a huge game against Annan and we need to be positive. This could be an historic season, so let’s make sure we get the job done."
