Elgin Amateur Boxing Club win two Scottish Intermediate Championships gold medals and three silvers at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell

Two Elgin Amateur Boxing Club youngsters have been crowned Scottish champions.

And three more just missed out on final victory, having to settle for silver at the Boxing Scotland Intermediate Championships at Ravenscraig.

There was glory for Elgin ABC's Jacob Ballingall in his 60kg final against Bongani Hapazari from O'Neils ABC in Cambuslang.

He defeated a tricky southpaw opponent by a 3/2 split ion the semi-finals, then went on to claim the gold medal on Sunday.

Joining Ballingall at the top of the podium was club mate Nathan Greene who earned a unanimous points decision in the junior 57kg final.

Greene beat Dunfermline opponent James Travers to take the gold.

"Nathan produced a masterclass of counter punching," said Elgin ABC head coach Paul Gordon.

Elgin ABC had seven boxers competing and five reached their finals.

Fraser Edwards was edged out in his 71kg final against Kincorth's Cameron Fraser.

Gordon said: "Fraser had to settle with silver after one of the best fights of the tournament."

The story was similar for Andrew Forsyth who competed for Elgin in the 67kg final against Granite City's Grant McCombie.

"Andrew was the last bout of the day and gave a brave account having got the first round, he had to contend with silver," Gordon added.

Fighting in the novice final, Emma Ritchie took on a skilful Hamilton BC opponent in what turned out to be a very close bout which the Hamilton boxer won.

Faith Ross gave everything in what Gordon described as an "epic scrap" in her 60kg category but couldn't reach the final.

And a point deduction proved costly for Elgin 52kg youngster Tyler Sked as it swung the points decision the way of his opponent on a 3/2 split in the semi-finals.

It was the third time that Sked had fought HBA's Robert Stewart with both boxers claiming a win apiece late last year.

"Everyone gave 100 per cent and as coaches that is all we can ask for," Gordon said.
