NORTH tennis received a boost as play began in the new season of the Galbraith Highland Tennis League.
There was some uncertainty surrounding the campaign taking place due to the Covid-19 situation.
Lengthy committee discussions came up with a compromise involving competitions being run within three clusters of Moray, Highland North and Badenoch and Strathspey.
First Division teams were given the option of joining in with the relevant cluster or form a separate, cross district event, and went for the latter choice.
Part of the agreement reached was that although fixture lists would be drawn up by league secretary Hamish McBain, the season would comprise a series of friendly matches with no trophies presented.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon’s announcement that Moray would stay in level 3 meant that the First Division cross-county matches involving Elgin (ladies, men and mixed) and Rothes (mixed) were under threat because of the re-imposed travel ban.
The opening two rounds of mixed fixtures saw a mass of cancellations as rain swept across the area on both Mondays.
