On the same say that England's Lionesses take on Spain in the World Cup final, MacDonald and her City team-mates head for Inverurie Locos Women for the club's first-ever competitive match.

The skipper spoke about the excitement building up ahead of their landmark debut fixture - see interview below.

Formed earlier this year and managed by ex-Elgin City and Highland League title-winning captain Michael Morrison, the team is aiming to make up for the disappointment of not playing their opening league match on Borough Briggs soil.

City joined the Scottish Women's Football League (SWFL) North division and were scheduled to host Forfar Farmington Development Team two weeks ago in front of what was expected to be a big crowd of supporters, family and sponsors.

But that showpiece match was postponed, much to City's huge disappointment, when Forfar couldn't raise a team and the Moray club was awarded the points.

Now their debut game is a cup clash at Inverurie and City will take a travelling support to Harlaw Park for their much-anticipated opener.

Elgin City's first SWFL North league game then takes place a week later at Dyce.

Their first home fixture finally arrives on the following Sunday against Dryburgh Athletic Community Club.
