ELGIN City exited the Scottish Cup on Saturday despite a battling effort at Championship side Dumbarton.

City went down 1-0 to a deflected Stuart Carswell free kick midway through the first half.

And Elgin manager Gavin Price said his team deserved to force a replay after matching their second-tier hosts for long spells.

Elgin striker Chris McLeish was denied by a good save early on which Brian Cameron hit a post in the second half as the visitors chased an equaliser.

The Black and Whites were without loan trio Lewis Strapp, Bruce Anderson and Tony Dingwall for the trip to Dumbarton.

They return to league action on Saturday when they welcome Berwick Rangers to Borough Briggs.
