ELGIN City's bad form at Galabank continued with a 2-0 defeat to Annan Athletic on Saturday.

Poor defending cost City goals early in each half and they seldom looked like fighting back to take something from their latest League 2 contest.

The Black and Whites slipped to fourth place with the loss.

Annan's opening goal arrived in four minutes when striker Aidan Smith was given space and time to turn on the edge of the box and fire home.

Chris McLeish had an effort saved for the visitors with Brian cameron rattling the woodwork with the rebound.

Thomas Reilly was then denied by a fine save from Alex Mitchell right on half time.

The second half saw Annan create the best chances and they doubled their lead on 56 minutes.

A corner kick tempted Elgin goalkeeper Marc Waters out to punch the ball but he only succeeded in hitting it against Annan centre back Peter Watson and back into the net.

Ross County loan midfielder Tony Dingwall came closest to pulling Elgin back into the game with a left foot drive which went narrowly past.

City finished up with six players booked and nothing to show for their efforts.

Gavin Price's side are back on home spoil when they entertain Edinburgh City this weekend.
