SATURDAY was a great day for Highland League clubs in the Scottish Cup – but not for Buckie Thistle.

While Brora Rangers, Fraserburgh, Cove Rangers and Formartine United all pulled off superb wins to enter today’s fourth round draw, Jags lost 3-2 at home to Brechin City.

The video, above, from William Hill Scottish Cup YouTube channel shows Buckie twice take the lead against their Championship opponents.

Striker John McLeod, who scored a hat-trick against BSC Glasgow in the last round, kept up his great record in the competition with two well-taken first half strikes.

However Brechin, who lost to Buckie in the Irn Bru Cup this season, got their revenge when sub Isaac Layne netted twice in the second half to nick a win for his team.

Cove produced the shock of the round, scoring twice in the final four minutes to beat League 1 hosts Airdrie 3-2.

Brora and Formartine also knocked out League 1 sides, with a last minute Steven MacKay goal rewarding Brora’s marathon trip south to Stranraer.

The same scoreline saw Formartine beat Forfar, managed by former Elgin City boss Jim Weir, and Fraserburgh came from behind to oust Lowland League hosts Spartans.

All four north sides will be hoping for a lucrative tie when the fourth round is drawn at 4.45 today (Monday), live on Sky Sports and Facebook.
