The striker netted the only goal of the game as City beat Edinburgh City to pick up their first victory of the campaign.

It was also Sutherland's opening goal of the term, but his skipper is confident there will be plenty more to come.

"Shane took his goal well and it was nice to see him scoring," said McGovern. "It looked like a wee bit of a weight off his shoulders.

"He played well but you could go right through the team and say that because everybody did their job."

Sutherland netted on the hour after teenager David Wilson and Chris McLeish combined to set him up in the penalty area.

Wilson won man of the match and McLeish received a good ovation when he was substituted in recognition of a hard working display alongside Sutherland.

The striker went close on three occasions after the break while Elgin stood up to some spells of Edinburgh pressure to win in their first home outing of the season.

Next up for Gavin Price's side is an Irn Bru Cup tie at home to Arbroath on Wednesday.
