JAMES Wilson celebrated winning the Nairn 10K for the first time in his career as he claimed victory on Sunday afternoon.
The Moray Road Runners athlete was too quick for the chasing pack as he crossed the finishing line in a time of 31 minutes and 57 seconds.
He was 32 seconds ahead of James Tole of Metro Aberdeen in second place who finished in 32:29 with Shaun Cumming of Highland Hill Runners third in a time of 32:36.
Wilson (29), originally from Knockando, but now lives in Aberlour, went one better than last year, when he finished in second place behind his brother Kenny Wilson.
He says after years of taking part in the race, he was thrilled to finally come out on top.
"I have been competing at the Nairn 10K and been on every step of the podium except the winning one so it was nice to get it today," he said.
"My time of 31:57 was a little bit slower than my personal best, but it was a tough day, it was bit windy in the first mile but once we got to 4k there was a tailwind so it was nice then.
"It probably suited me quite well actually the temperature, I prefer cooler temperatures and not a lot of sun so it suited me quite well."
It was a successful start to the road running season for Wilson after being crowned North Cross Country League champion earlier this year.
He hopes to carry on his success into the road running season, including the Inverness Half Marathon on Sunday, March 10.
"I have the Inverness Half Marathon next Sunday, so hopefully we will get another day like today, when it will be nice and cool and I will be able to run a strong time there.
"Then I will be gearing up for the Tom Scott 10 mile in Motherwell at the beginning of April.
"It has been a good winter as the cross country season was good and hopefully that will put me in good shape to do well on the roads.
"From now I hope it will be plain sailing and get a good summer season."
Representing Inverness Harriers, the 17-year-old claimed victory in a time of 36:09.
Last year's champion Jenny Bannerman of Inverness Harriers finished third in 37:14.
