Ross Draper praised Elgin City's performance in his first match in charge of the Borough Briggs club against Motherwell in the Viaplay Cup.

City lost 2-0, with Draper denied an equalising goal by a goal-line clearance in front of over 2000 fans in the first match of the new season.

Match report: Elgin 0 Motherwell 2.

Speaking after the game to a background of thunder and lightning, Draper said he took a lot of positives from his team's performance.

He handed a debut to Aberdeen loan youngsters Liam Harvey - who tested Scotland goalkeeper Liam Kelly with a second half shot - and Blair McKenzie as well as Ross County midfielder Ryan MacLeman.

City travel to East Fife on Tuesday for their next group game then host Queen of the South on Saturday.
