GAVIN Price lamented the loss of two Elgin City points as his team was held by ten-man Albion Rovers.

Kane Hester scored and missed a penalty kick while Rovers had a man sent off at the start of the second half in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Borough Briggs.

Some great saves by Albion keeper Binnie including Hester’s second spot kick made it a frustrating afternoon for Elgin manager Price.

“We’ve had the sending off, we’ve probably had a ridiculous amount of possession but didn’t create enough with it,” he said.

“Their keeper made some fantastic saves.

“But it was a real opportunity to get right in about the middle of the pack and we didn’t take it.

“With the chances we did have in the match we should have won it.”

Price stuck with Daniel Hoban in goal ahead of Tom McHale while Ross Draper and captain Euan Spark returned in defence and Tony Dingwall was elevated to a starting place alongside brother Russell.

Draper had a chance to open the scoring on ten minutes but couldn’t put his header on target from a well-flighted Russell Dingwall corner.

Chances were very much at a premium but on 24 minutes Elgin were thrown a lifeline in the shape of a penalty kick.

Kane Hester weaved his way into the box and was caught by Sean Fagan, with referee George Calder taking his time before awarding a spot kick.

Hester duly slotted the ball down the centre of the goal to score his 10th of the campaign.

Elgin’s lead looked secure until a moment of slackness right on half time cost them dear.

Poor marking at Charlie Reilly’s left-sided corner saw Rovers stopper Fagan arrive unchallenged and crash a header past Hoban to make it 1-1.

The visitors were reduced to ten men just after half time when trialist Peter Watson made a late challenge and was shown his second yellow card.

Good play by Draper started an Elgin attack which led to sub Conor O’Keefe teeing up Hester, whose powerful strike on the hour was well saved by Cammy Binnie.

Five minutes later City were awarded their second penalty of the afternoon, again for a foul on Hester by Lewis Wilson.

This time Binnie was equal to Hester’s spot effort, and also kept out the striker’s rebound attempt to keep Rovers on level terms.

Rovers weren’t out of it with sub Declan Byrne forcing a Hoban save, while at the other end Elgin’s Matheus Machado sliced a volley over from close range wile Russell Dingwall saw a 20 yarder tipped over by Binnie.

With the home side piling on the pressure, Machado and Darryl McHardy had strikes blocked during a series of late corners.
