WORLD no.2 Lee Westwood has set the early pace at the Barclays Scottish open.

He fired a blistering seven under par 65 earlier today to put himself at the top of the leaderboard at Castle Stuart.

Westwood had six birdies, an eagle and just one dropped shot in his round.

He was later joined on seven under par by Mark Tullo.

Swede Peter Hanson and South African George Coetzee both fired six under par 66s.

Colin Montgomerie, bidding to win a place at next week's Open Championship at Royal St George's started in positive fashion with a five under par 67.
