Neither side could qualify from the group stage with Dufftown already through as section winners, so only pride was at stake at School Park.

Hills have already posted a 5-1 win over New Elgin this season, as well as a 2-1 league success against Islavale a week earlier.

They were expected to find things difficult against a Forres Thistle side on good form and in strong contention for the Division 2 title this term.

Jags had thumped Burghead Thistle 7-1 on the previous midweek but found their match in an energetic Whitehills side.

What proved to be the only goal of the game arrived in the early minutes when Ross Fiske smashed a looping 25-yard drive over Forres keeper Jamie Brown to put the homesters ahead.

The woodwork took a pounding during the first half, with Jags' Scott Campbell hitting the crossbar with a header and a shot in quick succession.

At the other end, a long range free kick by Whitehills' Callum Findlay smacked off the bar and team-mate Brodie Christie hit a post with a lobbed effort.

Whitehills goalkeeper Jamie Williamson won the man of the match after a string of fine saves preserved his team's lead until the end.
