Having emerged victorious in crucial away contests at Brora Rangers and leaders Brechin City in their last two outings, Jags took on a third tough match in a row.

Their home game against Fraserburgh was switched to Lossiemouth's Grant Park because of drainage problems at Victoria Park - Buckie haven't played there since November 18.

And a crucial 1-0 win for Graeme Stewart's side took them to third in the table, just six points behind Brechin with three games in hand.

Youngster Lyall Keir scored the only goal of the contest on 32 minutes, his fifth of the campaign, to take Jags above Broch and virtually end the Buchan side's league hopes.

Formartine United also kept up their title push, climbing above Fraserburgh after a 5-1 win at home to inconsistent Nairn County.

The visitors form had been strong until recent heavy defeats to Inverurie Locos and Huntly, though they returned to winning ways against Deveronvale on Saturday.

Formartine proved to be a tougher nut to crack and roared into a 3-1 half time lead with Paul Campbell, Aaron Reid and Julian Wade all on target.

Ben Barron made it nine goals in five games since joining Nairn on loan from Elgin City to briefly reduce the deficit to one.

Wade struck again just after half time and Lewis Wilson wrapped up the win on 73 minutes.

The points were shared in the Moray derby at Kynoch Park.

Visitors Forres Mechanics led through a 26th minute Shaun Morrison goal before Mikey Ironside levelled ten minutes later to make it three games undefeated for the Maroons.

Lossiemouth were unfortunate to go down 3-2 away to Brora Rangers - the match played at Golspie Sutherland's King George V Park.

A tight first half ended with a Jordan MacRae goal for the Cattachs separating the teams.

Lossie struck back with a Ryan farquhar penalty, and within five minutes Farquhar put the Coasters into a deserved lead.

Alex Cooper levelled with 20 minutes to go and a late Gregor MacDonald effort snatched victory for Brora.
