Goals by Chris McLeish and Darryl McHardy took City to within a point of fourth-placed Stenny in the chase for the play-offs.

Elgin had to win to keep their season alive and manager Gavin Price made changes to the team which lost at home to Stirling in midweek.

Striker Shane Sutherland was rested after his first 90 minutes in more than a year, keeper Brett Long came back in and Cammy Eadie was recalled.

McLeish struck after 24 minutes to give City the vital first goal and McHardy netted from a corner just before the hour.

Stenny had Mike Marsh sent off for a second bookable offence as the visitors comfortably held on.

Price's side must now recharge their batteries for the long trip to Berwick Rangers on Tuesday night.
