After recent excitement at major UK events it was back to Moravian Orienteers’ Saturday league series planned by Donald Grassie in and around Dufftown.

Michael Bishenden set a hot pace in Speyside.

He had everyone going almost immediately into the delightful Meg’s Wood before the long course had to decide which way to cross the village to get into the woods above Glenfiddich Distillery, then returning for a third visit to the village streets.

The long course was dominated by the successful team from last week’s Easter international relays.

Sixteen-year-old Michael Bishenden took 25:44 for a hilly 5.7km. Finlay McLuckie (14) was not far behind and Andrew Campbell a healthy third. Scott Perry had an excellent run to finish fourth.

Moravian veterans dominated the short course with Dougie Condy, Paul Furness and Kenneth Anderson up at the top.

It was great to see a very new recruit to the sport, young mother Elizabeth Holmes taking the next spot.

A healthy number of locals of all ages turned up to try the sport for the first time and they mostly managed to take the upper places leaving our young juniors further down the yellow course positions than they are used to.

Felix Tweedie-McFarlane, Julia Ross and Harriet Ross were the top three Moravian juniors.
