FORTY new jobs have been created at Asda in Elgin after the store was given a £3million makeover.
Customers got their first glance at the new-look store, which has been upgraded over the course of the last 12 weeks, on Monday morning.
The front of the store has been redesigned, with a new customer service hub and an automated parcel collection unit created. The existing pizza counter has been relocated and now offers fresh, ready-to-eat pizzas, alongside Asda's create-your-own offer, while the George clothing and homeware departments have been modernised.
There is a Costa Express machine, a wider range of foods to go and an increased number of scan and go and self-scan checkout areas.
A barbers, a Harry Gow bakery concession and a Symposium café are set to open in the store.
The multi-million pound improvement has also created jobs – with 40 new members of staff hired to cope with increasing demand.
Store manager Martin Green said: "It’s great to be able to finally unveil our new, modern-looking store.
"Asda’s investment in Elgin is great news for the local community and means we are able to offer so much more in our store.
"We are pleased to have been able to hire 40 new colleagues to cope with the extra demand created by the improvements."
The new-look shop was formally opened by Mairi McCallum, project manager at Moray Food Plus, and Kathy McGrath-Gunn, home manager at Anderson's Care Home. Both were given honours in the Queen's birthday honours list.
Moray Food Plus and Anderson's Care Home have both recipients of grants from Asda in the past, with Anderson's receiving a health and hygiene grant last month.
