A planning application has been lodged to knock down a burned-out house in Lossiemouth and replace it with a brand new home.

Braelossie has been an eyesore on Prospect Terrace for many years, despite commanding one of the best views in Moray.

A design statement has been submitted by Tulloch of Cummingston to Moray Council, complete with a number of artist impressions of how the replacement building will look.

The document says: "The proposed development site is located on Prospect Terrace in Lossiemouth, currently an unoccupied fire damaged dwelling.

"Braelossie is a well‐known building within Lossiemouth and the surrounding area.

"It's a traditional home with stunning views over Lossie’s east beach and the River Lossie.

"Sadly it was allowed to fall into an unsafe state and condition of disrepair over a number of years.

"The Moray Council recently completed a compulsory purchase and placed the property on the open market.

"The existing property on site does not lend itself to renovation due to the poor condition of the structure.

"Hence the decision taken to demolish and erect a new home here instead.

"A site like Braelossie only comes along once in a blue moon and should be taken full advantage of in terms of maximising its potential."

The proposed house is two-storey and will be built using sandstone features.

The application will be heard at the next meeting of Moray Council's planning committee.
