The 58-year-old died at Dr Gray's Hospital following an incident at Elgin Bus Station last week.

A 15-year-old male, who was arrested in connection with the incident, was charged with murder and appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court on Monday.

The local community remains in a state of shock following the incident.

But residents of the town are now being encouraged to stand outside St Giles Church for "community reflection" on Saturday (February 10) at 7pm.

Flowers that have been placed at Elgin Bus Station will be temporarily relocated outside the church for the gathering and those attending are being encouraged to bring cards and candles.

Gary Mackay, who is helping to organise the event, says that the gathering is an opportunity for the community to show they are behind Keith's heartbroken family.

Gary said: "This kind of thing hasn't happened in all my decades of living here.

"It's really a response to local folk asking us to do this and to offer the wider community the opportunity to honour Keith and his family.

"We just want to allow people to think and chat and pay their respects to someone who served their community.

"There will be an opportunity to lay flowers, cards or even candles just to declare as a community that we are behind Keith's family.

"It's not a service. It's a demonstration of community and about showing care and love and respect."

It is understood that organisers of a fundraiser which has so far raised in excess of £30,000 for Keith's family will also be collecting on the night for those who want to donate.
