A team from the health board spoke to around 200 potential new recruits at the Royal College of Midwives Annual Conference in Liverpool on May 8 and May 9.

The team, including local midwives, utilised Virtual Reality (VR) technology to demonstrate what Moray has to offer.

Iconic Moray landmarks including Cooper Park, Lady Hill, Roseisle Beach, Lossiemouth Lighthouse and Dr Gray’s Hospital itself featured on a virtual tour of the region.

NHS Grampian says that the “immersive experience” was designed to promote Moray as an “undiscovered gem” and to promote the quality of life the region has to offer.

In a push to further promote the region, the team were also on hand to offer attendees Moray delicacies including samples from Walkers Shortbread and Baxters.

The move is part of what NHS Grampian has described as an “innovative recruitment campaign” designed to attract new staff to the maternity service in Moray which will gradually move to a consultant-led service over the next 2 years.

Jane Gill, Maternity Collaborative Project Manager, said: “We’re overjoyed with how positively the team were received.

“The level of interest it sparked among potential recruits easily surpassed all our expectations and we now have almost 50 people with the right skills identified who are interested in relocating to Moray. We’ll follow up with them all over the next few weeks.

“This an exciting and potentially massive step forward, especially combined with the three new obstetrician consultants who started at Dr Gray’s recently and the other key staff who have come on board over the last few months."

The initiative is part of a larger ongoing recruitment campaign that kicked off earlier this year, marked by the launch of a dedicated website, wishyouworkedhere.scot.

The campaign has attracted nearly 300 enquiries from potential new recruits.

Moray recruitment efforts are set to continue with plans already in place for further showcases of the area to key healthcare staff, including at an event for anaesthetists next week and for nurses in June.
