Letter of covid commendation is another string to the Bow for Elgin café

A COMMUNITY café in Elgin is celebrating after receiving a letter of covid commendation recognising its hard work supporting the community during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Bow, a drop-in café run by the Quarriers’ Arrows Service, has received the award, which was created by the Lord Lieutenants of Banffshire and Moray to acknowledge groups who have gone above and beyond during the covid-19 crisis.

Using food donations provided by local shops and organisations, The Bow has prepared, cooked and delivered more than 7500 meals to residents across Moray.

Café manager Hugh Norgate said: “The volunteers at the café and I are absolutely thrilled to have received a letter of covid commendation.

"Through collaboration and support from our community partners, The Bow has continued to rise to the current challenge and we are exceptionally proud to have been able to support our community over the last few months."

Aptly named by one of the service users as part of a competition, The Bow café is an extension of Arrows, a Quarriers support service that provides a resource of practical help for people and their families dealing with substance or alcohol misuse in Moray.

Food donations were provided by Moray Council's community support unit, Corra, the Scottish Government Wellbeing Fund, Moray Food Plus, Bookers Cash & Carry Elgin, Marks & Spencer Elgin, Morrisons, TSI Moray, Berryburn Windfarm, Edintore Windfarm, Tesco Elgin, Asda Elgin, Lidl Elgin, Glenfiddich, Diageo, Moray Makerspace, Chivas Brothers and Lossie Action Group.
