Section of A96 closed in Elgin after report of pedestrian on road

UPDATE: A96 in Elgin fully reopened after “crash” involving semi-dressed man

A SECTION of the A96 near KFC in Elgin has been shut in both directions after an incident this morning.

Officers were informed of a “crash” at around 8.30am, with more than half a dozen police cars and several ambulances called to the scene.

Eyewitness accounts have suggested a pedestrian had been on the road at around 8.30am. It is not clear at this stage whether anyone is seriously injured.

As of 10am, four police cars and an ambulance remain on the scene. Cars arriving into the town from the direction of Lhanbryde are being directed left at the KFC roundabout.

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed the incident and advised vehicles to avoid the area.

“The A96 at Elgin between the roundabout at East Road and the roundabout at Reiket Lane is closed in both directions following a crash which was reported to police around 8.30am,” the spokesperson said.

“Emergency services are in attendance and drivers are advised to avoid the area where possible.”
