A TEMPORARY mobile testing centre is being set up in Lossie Green car park in Elgin, to be used to test symptomatic key workers and their families for coronavirus.

The Northern Scot announced today that a testing centre was being set up in the car park, and it can now be confirmed this is as part of a new testing programme.

The Scottish Government is working together with the UK Government, NHS National Services and HM Forces on these facilities, with a total of 13 mobile testing units (MTUs) being set up around Scotland, starting from today.

The sites will usually remain in one location for a period of five days and will be staffed by military personnel. All will have the capacity to test 300 people per day.

MTUs are self-contained drive-through facilities, with self-test kits allowing people to undertake covid-19 testing in their car. Test results will be sent by text message or email within three days.

The sites will operate in a very similar way to the larger regional test sites (RTS) in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Inverness and Perth and should allow the government to offer testing that meets local needs and ensures wider access for key workers.

Testing sites agreed so far are Motherwell, Prestwick Airport, Dunoon, Stranraer, Galashiels, Peterhead and Elgin.

The establishment of these MTUs poses no risk to the public, with no equipment set to be left at the site at the end of each day of testing.

Eligible key workers can book a slot at a mobile testing unit using the digital portal here: https://self-referral.test-for-coronavirus.service.gov.uk/

Employers can also refer staff for testing. Please refer to the Scottish Government guidance for more information: https://www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-testing-for-key-workers-in-Scotland/.
