The enforced break in competitive sport hasn't put the Moray athletes off track in their quest to stay in shape so far this summer.

"Our coaches have done a great job of keeping athletes going with virtual sessions, and a daily 100 rep challenge which ran for 10 weeks," said head coach and chairman Scott Hamilton.

And when the club's fundraising quiz at the end of March had to be cancelled, Hamilton has also been organising weekly quiz nights via video conferencing apps for members to take part in.

He added that club coach Theresa Storey has been doing a great job helping the club's athletes to take part in Scottish Athletics’ virtual U12 SuperTeams initiative.

This online challenge is delivered by clubs, with team managers, coaches and club volunteers handling athlete registration, results and scoring in a club-based competition held over a four-week period.

Hamilton said the lockdown has put paid to many events during what was shaping up to be a lively year of sporting action.

"After receiving money from Awards for All in February we were looking forward to a very busy year," he said.

"Firstly we were to hold a training camp at Aberdeen Sports Village during the Easter Holidays. We hope to rearrange this for the October holidays all being well.

"The majority of the money was to be used during the summer months for our big birthday celebrations as the club turns 50 this year.

"Our intentions were to hold our club championships incorporating a Highland Games theme, followed by a marque ceilidh.

"As we wait for the Government to set out the new plans we wait patiently to see when we can go ahead with these plans."

As for the club's annual general meeting, it can take place without the need for any restrictions as it is being held virtually this year.

It will be held on Thursday, June 18 at 7.30pm.

Contact the club at info.elginaac@gmail.com if you would like to attend the meeting and club committee members will send you the link to the virtual call.
