Discipline and deadly accuracy were key to Moray boxer Fraser Wilkinson's Scottish super-welterweight title victory.
Wilkinson defeated Arbroath's Corey McCulloch on points after a ten-round tussle at Elgin Town Hall on Saturday.
The product of Elgin Amateur Boxing Club preserved his perfect professional record with a sixth win, and revealed the tactics behind his success.
"It was a really good learning fight, the type of fight I needed," he said.
"I am not the biggest hitter but I am quick and consistent and that is what made the difference.
"Every time I countered him, I was sharp and he was getting frustrated because he couldn’t hit me. The only time he could was when he got me against the ropes and I would then tie him up and move off.
"I hurt him in the fourth and I started putting combinations together but because he is more experienced than I am, I felt like he wanted to take the tide a little bit and bring the energy out of me by taking a couple of hits.
"So I couldn’t get too greedy at that point, I had to stay disciplined because I would have been gutted if I had blown it after four rounds."
After his first-ever Scottish title success, Wilkinson should have been ready to celebrate but he admitted that the ten rounds took their toll on his mood to party.
"Everyone was trying to get me to go out and celebrate but I was in no fit state. I was just needing my bed!
"The main thing is, I’ll get a break now and I think that’s what I’ve been needing. I’ve been in and out of the ring and training hard for just shy of three months."
