City couldn’t mark the occasion of Price’s 100th game at the helm with a victory as they were held to a drab goal-less draw at Cowdenbeath on Saturday.

Yet the manager remains upbeat about the prospects of the Borough Briggs club’s 20th season in Scottish league football being their most successful yet.

Price arrived at the Black and Whites in November 2014 as assistant to his managerial predecessor Jim Weir, who then departed to Forfar nearly three years later handing price the opportunity to move into the hotseat.

“That’s over five years now that I’ve been at the club and it’s well documented that I am really happy here,” he said.

“I’ve enjoyed what I am doing and I am really optimistic about this squad.

“I really hope we can achieve what we are capable of achieving this season, which would be getting into that play-offs.”

Price’s managerial reign officially began with three straight wins, the first being a 3-1 Scottish Cup success over Edusport Academy on October 14, 2017.

But there was a bumpy road ahead, just as every Elgin boss over the past two decades has experienced,

January saw another three-in-a-row on the win front , before the Moray outfit won just one of their next 11 to see their promotion aspirations slide away.

In his first full season in charge, the manager guided Elgin to the fourth round of the Scottish Cup where they were beaten 4-0 by Hibs at Easter Road.

But star striker Shane Sutherland was sold to Peterhead and again City’s bid to reach the play-offs faltered, with seven consecutive league losses in March and April.

This season has so far been all about Elgin’s remarkable cup exploits. Wins at Championship sides Alloa and Dundee as well as League 1 Airdrie took them to the last eight of the Challenge Cup where they went down fighting at Raith Rovers.

With league form has yet to match the cup results, last week’s stalemate in Fife to mark Price’s century edged them up to fifth spot, six points off the play-off pace but with more than half the campaign still remaining.

Gavin Price's Elgin City managerial record:

Games - 100

Wins - 37

Draws - 16

Defeats - 47

“The frustration for me is the points that we should have had. We could be in the top four just now but we’ve had too many draws from winning positions.

“We need to change that.”
