Joy as Elgin Cycling Club is named Scottish Cycling's Club of the Year 2023
ELGIN Cycling Club members were overjoyed after receiving one of the top accolades at the Scottish Cycling Awards on Saturday.
The event took place in Crieff, near Perth, but the cheers of the 22-strong Elgin Cycling Club squad could almost be heard back in Moray as they were announced as Club of the Year 2023.
The group travelled to Crieff Hydro for the second successive year to attend Scottish Cycling's annual conference and awards ceremony.
They knew they were one of the top three clubs in Scotland for the second year running – but winning the top accolade put the cherry on the cake of a fantastic year for the club.
"This is massive, I’m not going to lie," delighted chairwoman Lorna Breetzke told Scottish Cycling on the night.
"We came here last year for the same award and didn’t win. We left, regrouped, and this past year the club has grown even more and we have done much more."

She later added: "We were recognised for the sheer number and diversity of cycling activities and the growth of the club over the past year.
"We have an unprecedented equal split in membership between men and the women, and we cater for all road cyclists – from touring pace leisure cyclists to national standard racers.
"There is a real sense of excitement in the club and we all know we really deserved this award and trophy."
The 22 members that travelled to the conference and awards ceremony contributed to the day’s many sessions.
Two club members spoke at conference, detailing how the club has achieved its success – particularly with the attraction of women to the club and its attention to cycling as an aid to better physical and mental health.
Nine awards were handed out in total on the night. Lorna Breetzke was also recognised as Scotland’s 50 mile Time Trial Champion.
After the ceremonies, club members went for a celebratory gravel ride on Sunday morning around Crieff, while some of those back in Elgin sent happy congratulations from their mid-ride coffee stop in Moray at Christie's.
